From Dorm Room to Movement: Elumina Launches Reggaeton Con La Gata

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE January 2017

New York, NY — Elumina Media proudly announces the launch of Reggaeton Con La Gata, a groundbreaking digital platform dedicated to centering women’s voices within the global reggaeton movement. Created and spearheaded by college student Katelina “La Gata” Eccleston, the platform marks a pivotal cultural shift in an industry historically dominated by male-led narratives.

Developed from her dorm room while studying Communications at Marymount Manhattan College, Eccleston identified a critical gap in the digital landscape. While reggaeton media platforms such as Rapetón, Alofoke Music, and El Genero Urbano have successfully built large audiences, none have been created by women or intentionally centered the female perspective.

“I search the internet for Feminine curative presence of Reggaeton and can't find one so I made one,” said Eccleston. “It’s important for women to have a space so that we can share our own perspectives without influence from men, something different especially considering we all know how men can be.”

Reggaeton Con La Gata aims to redefine how women engage with and shape reggaeton culture by offering editorial content, artist features, cultural commentary, and community-driven storytelling. The platform positions itself not only as a media hub but as a movement advocating for representation, authorship, and agency for women within Latin urban music.

As reggaeton continues its global rise, Reggaeton Con La Gata enters the conversation as a necessary and timely intervention—challenging industry norms and amplifying voices that have long been overlooked.

Elumina Media, founded by Eccleston, operates at the intersection of culture, media, and strategy, with a mission to build platforms that shift narratives and expand access for underrepresented communities.
